Examples of applications

Encapsulation & controlled release

Quartzene serves as an effective carrier for controlled release applications. Svenska Aerogel’s patented process allows for the encapsulation of active substances within Quartzene’s porous structure, ensuring a gradual and controlled release. This effect can enable a reduction in the overall amount of active substances required, thereby e.g. minimizing biocides in formulations.

This is particularly beneficial for:

  • Medical technology & pharmaceutical delivery systems
  • Protective surface treatments, such as SeaQare® for antifouling
  • Life sciences & specialty chemicals

Hydrophilic

This is the natural state of the silica Quartzene particle. Since the material are a naturally occurring element already present in the body, they can be used in vivo in a wide range of applications, such as bone grafting.
As the purest form of Quartzene, the hydrophilic variant serves as the foundation for highly specialized and cutting-edge applications.

  • The lightest particle since the skeletons is only silicon dioxide and not surface modified. Therefore, this can be one important aspect in lightweight application.
  • Withstand very high temperatures, up to 900 °C and even higher if some breakdown is accepted,
  • Non-combustible.

Superior sorption & surface control

With a high surface area and tunable porosity, and the ability to be doped with various active, Quartzene can be used as a a highly effective sorbent, including:

  • Moisture and gas adsorption
  • Pollutant and contaminant removal
