Svenska  Aerogel has received an advance notice of a granted patent regarding a method for gas filtration. The patent will be published in a bulletin from the European Patent Office around January 25, 2017.

The patent covers a process for manufacturing Svenska Aerogels material Quartzene® that can be used to manufacture filter media to trap gaseous air pollutants by impregnation with various types of capture chemicals. The granted patent provides protection for the manufacturing of the impregnated material. The Quartzene® filter media is characterized by a capture capacity 2-4 times larger than competitive filter media. Furthermore Quartzene® is not flammable unlike filter media based on active carbon. Through the process flexibility the filter media can be tailored to dispose various types of gaseous air pollutants, such as sulfur compounds, nitrogen oxides, formaldehyde, etc. This possibility is generally lacking in competitive filter media.

“This patent strengthens our position in gas filtration and the timing for this approval is good as we are expecting results from the Eurostar project “Aero Filters” “Anders Lundström, CEO  Svenska Aerogel AB  Svenska Aerogel is a R&D company in materials technology that have been developing and now commercializes Quartzene® for various applications; primary Insulation, Paint & Coatings, and Filtration. Quartzene® is a material produced with a flexible, environmentally friendly and very cost effective method. Svenska Aerogel has developed a number of variants of Quartzene® with product and process patents. The commercialization is done in close cooperation with industrial partners representing various key business areas. Svenska Aerogel has recently been introduced on Nasdaq First North. FNCA is appointed Certified Adviser.
