Outlast® Technologies, a global leader and pioneer in thermal management solutions textiles, has launched a groundbreaking solution for advanced temperature-regulating fibers using Svenska Aerogel’s material Quartzene®. Outlast® has now filed a patent application for this unprecedented solution. The launch is scheduled for January 2025.

In 2023, Svenska Aerogel received a request to supply its highly porous aerogel material to Outlast® Technologies. The company, which originated in NASA’s space program—known for pioneering the use of aerogels, is a world leader in temperature-regulating textiles and has aimed to develop a unique solution focused on thermal insulation.

Svenska Aerogel’s material, with its high porosity, optimal particle size, and thermal insulating capability, demonstrated excellent results in heat insulation. Combined with fire-resistant materials, it also achieves a high level of flame retardancy. Being able to leverage the properties of Quartzene® directly within textile fibers, enables a range of applications such as filling for quilts and pillows, sleeping bags, jackets and shoes, and in protective clothing for emergency services.

“We are very happy to have found such an innovative, proactive and reliable partner in Svenska Aerogel for our important joint development project,” says Martin Bentz, CEO of Outlast Technologies GmbH.

In January 2025, the solution will be launched at the global textile fair Heimtextil in Germany, and at Intersec, the world-leading venue for safety, fire protection, and emergency services in Dubai. Outlast® has already introduced the solution to selected customers ahead of the launch, generating significant interest. The company sees strong potential across multiple applications and a patent application for the solution was submitted this fall.

“We are very impressed by the level of innovation in the solution developed by Outlast. It addresses a well-known issue within the textile industry related to the use of aerogels for creating high-performance, thermally insulating fabrics. Now that they have overcome this challenge, we are looking forward to the continued development of this business” says Tor Einar Norbakk, CEO of Svenska Aerogel.
