In this first interview, we speak with José Miguel Ortega, Technical Director at Comindex – part of the IMPAG Group, about his experience, the advantages of Naerogel®, and the market opportunities he sees in Iberia and Morocco.
1. Could you briefly introduce yourself, your company, and your role as a Svenska Aerogel distributor?
My name is José Miguel Ortega, Technical Director at Comindex – Part of the IMPAG Group. I am in the company since 2008 and I have witnessed its growth in terms of the principals we represent, turnover, and employees.
Throughout this journey, however, we have remained true to our DNA: providing technical consultancy and support to our customers. This customer-focused approach is one of the key reasons why we are recognized and valued across the Iberian and Moroccan market.
Since the beginning of this year, we have become part of the IMPAG Group, a larger organization with greater resources, while sharing the same values and vision of the specialty chemicals distribution business. This gives us great confidence and optimism about the opportunities that lie ahead.
As Svenska Aerogel’s distribution partner for Iberia and Morocco, we see a strong fit between the two companies. Svenska Aerogel’s strong customer orientation, commitment to supporting projects at every stage, and focus on developing value-added solutions closely align with our own philosophy and approach to the market.
2. What stands out about the Naerogel® product range compared with similar technologies or alternative solutions?
What I would highlight about the Naerogel® product range, compared with products based on similar chemistries or alternative technologies offering comparable functionalities, is the outstanding quality and performance of the products themselves.
In addition, Svenska Aerogel brings an exceptional level of expertise regarding its technologies and their potential applications across a wide range of markets. This deep technical knowledge, combined with the efficiency of the products, enables the company to provide meaningful support to customers and to develop innovative, value-added solutions tailored to specific application needs.

3. Which applications or markets do you see as having the greatest potential for Naerogel®?
As is already well known, our markets, Iberia and Morocco, are experiencing increasingly hot summers, with temperatures reaching record highs year after year. As a result, the main area of application for these products is within the construction sector, particularly in solutions related to thermal insulation and energy efficiency, such as exterior façade coatings, plasters, cool roof systems, and other energy-saving building materials.
We currently have several promising projects underway in this field, and we continue to see growing interest from customers looking to develop products that improve thermal performance and sustainability.
Another application with significant potential is fire-resistant, particularly in intumescent coatings, where the unique properties of aerogel-based materials can contribute to enhanced fire protection performance while maintaining formulation efficiency.
